Our Balanced Scorecard Certification Program is designed to give you the tools and skills needed to help your organization increase focus on strategy and results, improve organizational performance, align work with strategy, focus on the drivers of future performance, improve communication of the organization’s vision and strategy, and prioritize in tough economic times. With two levels of certification, Balanced Scorecard Master Professional (BSMP) and Balanced Scorecard Professional (BSP), this comprehensive program is ideal for participants charged with building, implementing, managing, and sustaining balanced scorecard planning and management systems. Created by the experts at BSI and offered in association with the George Washington University Center for Excellence in Public Leadership, part of the College of Professional Studies, this program is fully consistent with basic balanced scorecard concepts & terminology developed by Drs. Kaplan & Norton. Each 10-session program retails for $4,500.
Program Overview
The Balanced Scorecard Certification Online Program provides participants with the tools they need to build, implement, and sustain a balanced scorecard planning and management system in their organization. Courses are taught by specialized balanced scorecard training experts through a series of hands-on, interactive workshops. This program is ideal for anyone interested in helping their organizations focus on strategy and improve performance.

Program Tracks
There are two levels of certification: the basic Balanced Scorecard Professional (BSP) and the more advanced Balanced Scorecard Master Professional (BSMP).
Balanced Scorecard Professional (BSP) Certification
The BSP certification is a 10-session program that introduces participants to the balanced scorecard system. It is comprised of two courses that provide a comprehensive understanding of balanced scorecard essentials ranging from basic to advanced, organized around BSI’s award-winning Nine Steps to Success™ framework. Participants must pass an exam at the end of the course to get BSP certified.
Balanced Scorecard Master Professional (BSMP) Certification
The BSMP certification takes participants through the most advanced principles of strategic management systems. This 10-session program builds on the knowledge learned in the BSP program with more advanced exercises, one-on-one interaction with senior staff, and additional resource material, software tools, and templates. Participants must pass the BSP exam as well as create and present a BSMP application project to become BSMP certified.
10 Sessions Per Program
Each program will include one 60-90-minute lecture webinar, plus a 60-90-minute small group exercise.
Session Lecture
For the first half of each session, an expert consultant will present content to the entire class. Much like BSI’s other educational webinars, this presentation will intersperse polling questions and other activities and will include a Q&A session at the end.
Session Small Group Exercise
For the second half of each session, delegates will be split into small groups of 4-5. The groups will be tasked with completing a small group exercise via web conference. All exercises will be facilitated by an expert consultant. Participants are required to engage via web camera and microphone.
Reading, Quizzes and Exam
Sessions will be complemented with reading assignments, quizzes (not graded), discussion board dialog, and small-group instructor feedback. Upon completion of the course, participants will be required to take and pass the online BSP Exam to become certified.
Technical Requirements
Live Online programs will be delivered using Zoom. Requirements to attend a Zoom session include:
- An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE)
- Speakers and a microphone – built-in or USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth
- A webcam or HD webcam – built-in or USB plug-in
- Or, a HD cam or HD camcorder with video capture card

The Value of Online Training
Online BSI courses are minimally discounted compared to our live in-person courses. Just as many Universities have found, the cost related to offering a quality course online are just as high, if not higher, than offering a course in person. Direct interaction with experienced BSI consultants is integral to the quality of all our programs, live or online. BSI consultants facilitate all interactive exercises in addition to the lecture, so each participant will likely see 120-180 minutes of instructor time each week, in addition to discussion board and homework review. The value of the content is the same, only the delivery is designed to meet the needs of those that can’t (or don’t want) to travel or be away from their office for five days.

The same content as the Balanced Scorecard Boot Camp! Beginning with the basic Nine Step process covered in the Part 1 course and then continuing into the real-life nuances and complications addressed in the Part 2 course, this course covers the entire range of balanced scorecard topics over the course of 10 online sessions. Fully consistent with basic balanced scorecard concepts & terminology developed by Kaplan & Norton, the course covers scorecard development in business, government, and non-profit organizations. Participants get hands-on practice using a simple, step-by-step process for developing a scorecard system on their own. This course combines the material in the entire Balanced Scorecard Professional program a single live online course and meets the course requirements for Balanced Scorecard Professional Certification (exam completion required). Price includes access to the BSP online certification exam. Each session includes 60-90 minutes of webinar-based lecture and 60-90 minutes of small-group facilitated exercises. Different scheduling options are available – once session per week for ten weeks, one session per day for ten days, or two sessions per day for five days.

Balanced Scorecard Master Professional (BSMP) Certification Application

This Application course offers certified Balanced Scorecard Professionals a way to upgrade to full BSMP certification. The program is ideal for participants charged with building, implementing, managing, and sustaining balanced scorecard planning and management systems. It was developed for members of internal balanced scorecard teams who want to learn how to build, deploy, and sustain scorecard systems, and for anyone who wants to incorporate lessons learned and best practices into the development of a strategic management system. Completion of the BSP certification is required before registration for this course will be approved. It is recommended that participants wait a few months after completing the BSP certification before taking the BSMP Application course.
