OKR Professional Certification LIVE ONLINE

This six-session live online course trains participants on setting and working with Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). OKR Professionals are certified in accordance with standards set by Balanced Scorecard Institute in association with the George Washington University Center for Excellence in Public Leadership and developed through decades of knowledge and experience in Performance Management and Objective Setting best practices.

Program Overview

It is critical that organizations have a certified OKR professional coaching their teams to ensure that OKRs are balanced, focused on results, effectively implemented, and aligned with strategy. Without the guidance of a trained professional, OKR implementations can turn into glorified to-do lists, include long laundry lists of trivial metrics, or get ignored over time. Created by the Balanced Scorecard Institute and offered in association with the George Washington University Center of Excellence in Public Leadership, the OKR Professional Certification program equips participants with the necessary coaching tools to guide their teams in effectively crafting and executing OKRs for successful outcomes.

6 Sessions Per Program

Each training session will include one 60-90-minute lecture webinar, plus a 60-90-minute small group exercise.

Session Lecture

For the first half of each session, an expert consultant will present content to the entire class. Much like BSI’s other educational webinars, this presentation will intersperse polling questions and other activities and will include a Q&A session at the end.

Session Small Group Exercise

For the second half of each session, delegates will be split into small groups. The groups will be tasked with completing a small group exercise via web conference. All exercises will be facilitated by an expert consultant. Participants are required to engage via web camera and microphone.

Reading, Quizzes and Exam

Sessions will be complemented with reading assignments, quizzes (not graded), discussion board dialog, and small-group instructor feedback. Upon completion of the course, participants will be required to take and pass the online OKR Exam to become certified.

This coaching-focused course is highly recommended for individuals interested in mastering the best practices for facilitating successful OKR development and implementation. The courses are instructed by seasoned instructors with extensive backgrounds in various sectors, including private, public, and nonprofit organizations.

What is an OKR?

The Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) goal-setting framework is employed by organizations aiming to engage employees in achieving impactful results and goals. Often associated with technology companies in Silicon Valley (such as Google, Twitter, Spotify, Airbnb and LinkedIn) or those that focus on Agile methodologies, the OKR model can be used by any sized organization in any sector. OKRs create an analytical basis for decision making and help focus attention on what matters most.

In the OKR model:

• Objectives capture what you want to accomplish (a broad goal) in a qualitative sense (Example: Improve the Customer Experience)
• Key Results capture/measure how you will accomplish the objective in a quantifiable manner (Example: 10% increase in our Net Promoter Score by the end of the quarter)
• Everyone in the organization sets their own OKRs, from leadership down
• OKRs are set individually but should be aligned with strategy
• All OKRs are shared transparently and reported on a regular cadence, typically quarterly

The Value of Online Training

Online BSI courses are minimally discounted compared to our live in-person courses. Just as many Universities have found, the cost related to offering a quality course online are just as high, if not higher, than offering a course in person. Direct interaction with experienced BSI consultants is integral to the quality of all our programs, live or online. BSI consultants facilitate all interactive exercises in addition to the lecture, so each participant will likely see 120-180 minutes of instructor time each week, in addition to discussion board and homework review. The value of the content is the same, only the delivery is designed to meet the needs of those that can’t (or don’t want) to travel or be away from their office for five days.

Continuing Education Units

The certification gives participants the status of alumni of GW CEPL’s executive education programs, and an opportunity to obtain highly-coveted Continuing Education Units (CEUs)*. Please note the additional fee of $540 for this level of certification to obtain 2 Continuing Education Units.  Participants selecting this option would count as alumni of George Washington University’s non-degree executive education programs, which is distinct from degree-bearing academic programs.

*One CEU is equivalent to 10 hours of face-to-face instruction time.
